Authentic Vintage Senufo Stool was created by the Senufo People of the northern Ivory Coast in Africa. Original hand carved tribal stool from Burkina Faso. Carved from a single block of indigenous with beautiful chisel marks and patina. Features a crescent-shaped seat and flat base.

It’s simple yet versatile design make it the perfect stool or table for your home. The small size of this particular piece also makes it a perfect decorative display surface or pedestal. Could be also be displayed as sculpture or an object d'art in a library or any bookshelf.

The Senufo Stool is rooted not only in Ghana’s time-honored craft of woodcarving, but also in the rich cultural history and traditional designs of the Senufo tribes in Mali and Ivory Coast. Tradition has it that the Senufo Stool, or Golden Stool, floated out of the sky and landed on the lap of the first Ashanti king, Osei Tutu, who unified the Ghanaian people in the 17th Century. It was then declared that the soul of the nation resided in this stool.

FACTS & HISTORY: The Senufo are predominantly an agricultural people cultivating corn, millet, yams, and peanut. Senufo villages consist of small mud-brick homes. In the rainy southern communities of Senufo, thatched roofs are common, while flat roofs are prevalent in dry desert-like north.

The Senufo is a patriarchal extended family society, where arranged typically cousin marriage and polygyny has been fairly common, however, succession and property inheritance has been matrilineal.

Traditionally, the Senufo people have been a socially stratified society, similar to many West African ethnic groups having castes. These endogamous divisions are locally called Katioula . The caste system found among Senufo people features "hierarchical ranking including despised lower castes, occupational specificity, ritual complementarity, endogamy, hereditary membership, residential isolation, and the political superiority of farmers over artisan castes.
