Chinese Elm Rice Bucket early 20th century, this is an outstanding Chinese dovetailed Elm bucket, used for carrying and measuring rice. The bucket has wooden peg nails with hammered iron reinforcements on the top corners. The bentwood carrying straps are pegged to the sides of the box, then drawn together and secured to the shaped carrying handle, with the assistance of iron fittings each end. One is missing. Has very faint markings on face.

With it's beautiful weathered patina and large handle, we think this Chinese lBucketwill makes a beautiful decorative addition to any style home.

Today these Chinese buckets are appreciated just for their beauty or can be used for decorative storage -to hold bathroom rolled towels, logs next to the fireplace, magazines etc.

Whether placed in a kitchen, living room or hallway, it's a unique Antique. purchased from a Collector's Estate in Kennebunkport Maine.

Also Called "Dou" in Chinese,  Ancient China Standard unit of measurement for certain amount of grain or rice.  1 dou approximately equivalent to 10.35 Litres.
