FACTS & HISTORY:You may have heard this term but what exactly is Cinnabar? The word Cinnabar comes from the ancient Greek. Cinnabar, refers to the color of the pigment made from oxidized mercury found in nature.

The pigment is added to lacquer which is the resin or sap of a tree found throughout southern China. It is an amazing material that hardens when exposed to oxygen and becomes a natural plastic that is resistant to water and can withstand heat and certain acids. The lacquer is then applied in many layers over wood or metal and hand carved in intricate designs.
