FACTS & HISTORY:  It's fair to say that after 1940 because of World War II the capital of the art world moved from Paris to New York. It began in the forties but it took some time to fully evolve, for the community of people people who foster the production, exhibition, appreciation, and sales of contemporary art to form. You need networks of galleries, dealers, collectors, curators, museum officials and trustees, and critics etc. A network did emerge in New York City after 1945, just not overnight. A rich scene emerged downtown in the 60’s and 70’s fully blossoming in the over the top 1980’s. NYC continues to be a destination for young artists to become inspired and hope to be discovered.
